Super Saturday Blitz
Tuesday 1 February 2022 08:58

After a year off due to COVID-19 disruptions, the ITRA's hugely popular Super Saturday Blitz returns to coincide with the conclusion of the Guinness Six Nations on March 19th.

Sign-up is on an individual basis - no team entry. Once the blitz is full up, the six captains will meet to "draft" their teams fantasy rugby-style. Everyone who signs up will be picked for a team, and captains will have to choose in order based on who they know, what they know, or a complete hunch. This ensures a nice mix of experienced players and players new to the sport and should ensure six even teams - unlike in the rugby! Your captains will then have a week to assemble your team, coordinate colours and trade stories of your national pride.

The event kicks off at 10.30am sharp to ensure we're finished in time for the three Six Nations games being held on the day. Each team will play 5 x 20-min games in the same format as the Six Nations tournament, e.g. Ireland's first game will be against Wales. The games are back-to-back, with a short rest in between but no weekends off. The event will be over before 1.30pm, giving plenty of time to shower on site and hit the club's bar for Wales v Italy at 2.15pm. This is the first of three back-to-back Six Nations games on the day.

Pembroe Cricket Club is a grass-surface venue with a bar, changing rooms, plenty of parking and showers on site. The venue is 2.2km away from the Aviva Stadium, where Ireland's Six Nations campaign comes to an end against Scotland at 4.45pm later that day.
