Tag Teams Looking For Extra Players:

Have you lost players and don’t know if you can enter a Tag team this summer?
Is your Tag team looking for extra players for the ITRA 2021 Summer Tag League?

Maybe Covid has meant that some of your players have had to work from home and therefore are dotted all over Dublin city?  This could make it difficult to get the work team or ‘group of mates’ teams back together in the same venue?!

We understand it can be difficult for the captain to organise the Tag TEAM, without the added pressure & inconvenience of losing players for geographical reasons.

Therefore, we have set-up a ‘Google Form’ document for team captains to fill in with your playing night, venue, standard of Tag and how many extra players you require?

ITRA head office will then try to either find you individual Tag players or amalgamate two or more teams together in the same venue who are struggling to find numbers and enter our summer Tag league.

Please can you fill in our Google Form doc by clicking here.

You can also contact head office by E: info@tagrugby.ie

When registering; click on the "STANDARD" drop down box and select either; BEGINNER or INTERMEDIATE standard.  This will bring you to the choice of Individual teams on offer in various ITRA venues/nights.

Beginner Tag Team Leagues:

Beginner Team Tag leagues (previously called “Novice”) are designed to gently introduce the sport of Tag for fun teams.  Our referees are patient and sympathetic to beginner players.  The referees will try and explain their on field decisions with a view to helping players get a better understanding of the Tag laws and will coach teams where necessary to help improve their overall Tag experience.  We make sure that experienced players and teams do not enter these leagues - so all the teams are learning at the same rate.

You should enter a Beginner Team Tag League if you fill any of the following criteria:

1) You are a NEW work / social team, never played Tag before with limited sporting experience and are looking at starting to play Tag in a relaxed and fun environment.
or
2) Your team is a group of friends who have a limited experience of Tag, you lose a LOT more matches than you win!  You don't mind if the referee explains their decisions and coaches your players during the game.  Your team wants to join a league at a relatively low standard, but you take the social side of Tag very seriously...

(No ‘John McEnroe’ temperaments need apply please!)

Men’s Masters 45’s Tag League:

Last year we only had one age grade division (>35’s) where everybody was jumbled in together.  But now we are expanding to incorporate the >45’s in a separate comp.

To be honest it wasn’t really fair on the ‘thirtysomethingyearolds’; how could they cope with those Campo goose steps, the Tony Ward dummies, the Keith Crossan swerves.  So, we have developed a Tag League specifically for gentlemen to reminisce & debate about the good ol’ days.  When scrums didn’t take 5min to set and then collapse!  How many Englishmen did ‘Ginger McLoughlin drag over the line for his try’?  When Triple Crowns were all we had to play for.  And who cried in the 1991 RWC QF after Lynagh scored that try in the corner to knock us out after Gordon Hamilton’s solo effort?  I did!!  ?

If none of the above makes any bloomin sense; you are too young kid.  Only players born on or before the year 1976 are eligible.
Only >45’s the Masters of Tag should sign up for a swash buckling ‘Give it a Lash’ Tag League.

Disclaimer; hamstring and hip replacements are not included

NB: a cigarette in the car with heater on, does not constitute a proper warm-up for Tag.

Ps – you are permitted to have a ‘Brendan Mullen’ style headband on…if it makes you feel better and look faster!

Women’s Rugby Club Summer Tag:

After a winter of lockdown and the entire women’s rugby season written off!  The Irish Tag Rugby Association (ITRA) are excited to announce the launch of the Leinster Women’s Rugby Club TAG competition.

Summer Tag WITHOUT howling wind, sleeting rain and muck, glorious muck!

Rugby clubs and players will be back training for a proposed early start to the 2021/22 rugby season in August.  Therefore, not only do you need to get back in the gym, but also work on your aerobic fitness and most importantly your handling skills with a dry ball in perfect ‘running rugby’ conditions.

What better way to do this than sign up to our Women’s Rugby Club Summer Tag League.  Take advantage of the longer warmer summer evenings.

For some players, this will be the first opportunity to play in our Summer Tag comps.

The Women’s ‘KBA’ Tag League – "Keep Ball Alive" is the buzz word around La Rochelle these days.  This is an 8-a-side league, on full size Tag pitch (50m wide x 70m long).
Tag is a fast, highly skilful sport to show off all your tricks.  The emphasis is on passing, attacking lines of running, cheeky grubber kicks and defensive organisation.  There is nowhere to hide on this Tag field and there is no substitute for fitness and pace - KBA!

The only equipment you need is a pair of ‘official Tag shorts’ which have Velcro patches on hips to attach your Tags.  They can be purchased separately.
