Mellon Education Tag Blitz Returns on 22nd June

The annual Mellon Educate Tag Blitz returns in 2024, and will be run by ITRA on Saturday 22nd June in Terenure College RFC.

The event has run since 2007 and is a favourite date on the tag calendar. This year's event, as ever, is run in aid of the Mellon Educate Trust. Long-serving tag referee, player and tag coach Andrew Doyle is the figurehead of the fundraising efforts in the tag community.

All profits from the event go to the Mellon Education charity work.

About Mellon Educate

Mellon Educate is an Irish-based African development charity founded by developer and philanthropist Niall Mellon in 2002 and established as a charitable company in 2004. Thanks to the enormous collective effort of their volunteers, in conjunction with the South African government, they have built houses for 175,000 homeless people in South Africa’s poorest townships. This was only possible because ordinary people took selfless action to do something truly extraordinary and lend a helping hand on the annual “building blitz” in South Africa.

Every year, their incredible volunteers create inspiring stories of possibility for deprived children. The legacy of their work during the 7-day building blitz in South Africa is truly a life achievement. The skilled labour, long days, and heavy lifting are no holiday in the sun, but their volunteers’ dedication is the lifeblood of the charity. The journey begins with the colossal challenge of fundraising to travel and support these construction projects. They value each and every volunteer greatly for their unwavering commitment and hard work. Together, we build more than just structures—we build futures.
